So You Started a Blog… But What’s Next…?
Starting a new blog? It can be terrifying...
Many people who are looking to start an online business are told that getting a personal blog is one of the first steps that you should make. It will help to promote and brand yourself. It can be an amazing tool that can deliver your message to millions of people if done correctly.
But don't be fooled, it is not as easy as getting a website and throwing a bunch of words on it. It takes a lot of time, hard work, and dedication!
Wikipedia says that as of February 2014 there are approximately 172 million Tumblr and 75.8 million WordPress blogs online, and more are added every single day. (to read the full Wikipedia page about blogs click here )
To a new blogger like myself, just hearing those numbers can seem kind of overwhelming! So what can you possibly do to help yourself on your blogging journey?
Posting quality content... Regularly!
The first thing that will sink your blog is not publishing Quality Content regularly! While I don't believe that having the occasional post about your own personal journey will turn readers off, I think that they should be limited.
I have heard quite a few differing opinions on this. Some say talk about your own story, while others say "post nothing but valuable content to other readers".
In my eyes, there is no better way for the readers to get to know the blogger personally than being able to relate to both the good and the bad experiences. I believe a personal story (in moderation) is valuable content to many people.
What do you think?
Form relationships with those who have popular blogs
The second thing that I believe will really help, is something that I do very often myself. I actively search out the bloggers that are having success. I will read every post if I have to. I like to try to analyze what they are doing, their writing style, and their personality.
*PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION*
DO NOT ever try to copy someone else's blog, content or style! You can not fake it in the blog universe. You MUST be yourself, and find your own style and voice. All I am saying is that it is smart to visit the people's blogs who are successful and see what they are doing that works.
Think about it... If you wanted to be a bodybuilder, you wouldn't hang out with an overweight, lazy person, would you? Or if you wanted to get better at Basketball, you wouldn't hang out with a golfer. Of course not! You would search out the people who are active in those communities.
Now here is the big part... Read their blog posts, post quality comments, and actually get to know the people behind the blog! Create a relationship with them. Not only is it fun to get to know someone new, but it will also help you down the road to meet people who are having success.
Also to help others in finding information that they may need, make a habit of sharing blog posts that you like. Use your own Social Media or other methods you might have to share their posts.
Here are a couple of blogs that I absolutely love!
Adrienne Smith - Not only is she an amazing writer and business woman, but she is super helpful and one of the nicest people I have came across. Do yourself a favor and check out her blog by clicking HERE
Donna Merrill - Donna is absolutely inspiring to me! She is such a positive and fun loving person. I have never had the honor to meet her, but I can see her personality through her writing! I have learned so much by reading her posts. Click HERE to go take a look at Donna's blog
The list goes on and on, but those are just a few.
This could be the most useful piece of advice that was ever given to me... JUST BE YOURSELF!
Don't try to act like someone you are not... and don't pretend to know things that you don't. It is OK to admit that you are still learning as you go! I think you will be surprised to find out that some of the people that you admire are constantly learning and growing as well.
Try these three things and maybe they will help you find a direction that you want to go:
1) Post quality content regularly! Find a problem that people in your niche are having, and try to find a solution that will help them
2) Go out and build relationships with those bloggers or business people who are having success and good at their craft! When you read something that you like, post a quality comment, and make sure you remember to share their posts. More than likely they will share yours when they like it.
3) BE YOURSELF! Don't ever try to "fake it until you make it"... Take it from me, It does NOT work!
If you have any other suggestions that might help other people, please feel free to share them in the comment section. I love to hear people's opinions!
If you liked what you read today… Please Post and Share so someone else can get use from it!
