Getting Organized For Success
Getting Organized Really Is Your First Step To Success
"Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up." - A.A. Milne
I learned an important lesson today about the first step to success... I learned how to get organized so that success will follow! I've never been an "organizer". In school, I never wrote down assignments or kept a calendar, I never used the task lists on my phone. I was always more of a guy who just did things that needed to be done as I could think of them.
And guess what... I was not very successful when I was in school, and not many things that needed to, got done! Any Surprise?
I am proud to say that I am a member of Bertus Engelbrecht's Elite Internet Marketing Academy (or EIMA). The EIMA is a 12 week intensive video course that can turn anyone with the desire and motivation into an internet marketer. It sets you up with the keys to success, it just depends what you want to do with these keys.
Today was my first course, and I learned a part of success that I never knew before!
Especially when deciding to start a business or go into business for yourself, how can you be a success when you don't take yourself seriously? Can you be a success when you don't have goals and deadlines, and stick to them? Will you ever become a success if you don't have things written down?
The answer is NO! Do you think Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Donald Trump or any other success is not organized?!?
A Checklist For Getting Organized For Your First Successful Step Into Internet Marketing
- A computer
- A daily planner or calendar to write down your daily tasks and events
- A notebook to take notes of different things you learn
- A White Board... Come on, everyone knows the best and most successful ideas come from a whiteboard!
A Computer - So the first one seems obvious. If you want to have success and work from home, of course you need a computer!
A daily planner or calendar (Extremely Important!) How can you keep track of things if you don't have one? To have success, write every day what you need to get done for the day. Stick to it! Be accountable for what you write down! You need to start changing your mindset to someone who is going to have success!
If the success is in the planning... Write EVERYTHING down! It doesn't matter how big or how small. I have found out myself that once you write something down that needs to get done, I push myself so much harder to actually get those tasks done!
At the end of the day, sit down and take 5 - 10 minutes to write down in your calendar everything that needs to get done the next day. Don't jam pack your day unless you know that you can get it all done. At the end of the day, you want to look at the success in the things you could get done... not a long list of things you couldn't finish.
During the day, check off the things that you have completed and repeat that every day.
For anyone who is wanting to have success in internet marketing... You know that you will have webinars, meetings, Skype calls, phone calls, etc. A calendar is a perfect way to keep track of these.
A Notebook - Note taking is a skill I learned that seems to keep paying off. I have been through countless webinars and mastermind meetings, but there is NO WAY to remember everything that was said. In just under a month, I have attended 8 webinars and 7 Skype mastermind meetings. How can I possibly have success if I don't write all those notes in my notebook? Any time I get stuck, or need a piece of information, it is easy to go back and find them in a well organized notebook.
A Whiteboard - Everyone knows that all the big successful companies have white boards. I bet it would be safe to say that many successful products and million dollar ideas were conceived on a white board. It's one of those items that actually gives you inspiration. You can use it for flow charts, product ideas, to-do lists, reminders, and much more! They are great planning devices and easy to change on the fly! Anyone who wants success in their business will definitely invest in one!
I know... I know... These days, there's an app for all that... But I can tell you that there is no better feeling than looking at a physical book that is full of things that have been done and planned, a book full of all the notes of things that you have actually learned, and a white board on the wall with your successful idea on it.
Anyone want to guess what I did today? You guessed it... I picked up my new daily planner/calendar, a notebook for note taking, and a white board that is now hanging on my wall!
