Why is it important to set goals anyways?
Personal goal setting is the second step on your way to success. First, success starts in the planning and organization... closely followed by setting personal goals for you or your business to strive for. If you don't have goals, how can you ever expect to achieve success?
Setting personal goals in incredibly powerful! It drives you to claw and fight your way to getting what you want. You need to have a definite aim and purpose, and never stop until you get what you want.
Planning S.M.A.R.T. Goals
"Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people's criticisms, carry out your plan."
--Paul J. Meyer
- S - Specific - your goals must be very specific in nature
- M - Measurable - your goals must be measurable
- A - Achievable - any goal (even if crazy) is achievable with hard work, persistence and determination
- R - Relevant - your goals must be relevant to what you are doing
- T - Time Bound - you must put a time limit on your goals and the time you want to achieve them.
Think about your own goals for a moment... When it comes to business, what is the reason you got involved with what you did? Even if it is sales or internet marketing, boxing, becoming a chef, a doctor or lawyer, goal setting applies to everything!
Grab a piece of paper and let's create your own road map to success...
What's the reason you got involved in your area or expertise? -
- Do you want to be financially free?
- Maybe you want to be your own boss,
- help your family?
- Or maybe you just want to be rich? (yes, that is ok too!)
Whatever your reason for getting into your business, write it down on the paper.
Next... Write down your goals for where you see yourself in the Long Term (5+ years) BE SPECIFIC!
There is a very specific psychology behind having your goals written down on a piece of paper that you can look at and read daily. Your brain will see these goals as more realistic! You must commit and become attached to your goals once they are written down. It gives you concrete motivation when you see your goals written down! It builds accountability in a person as well!
Now that you have your Long Term Goals written down, what do you want to achieve in 1 year from now? Write it down.
Now move to your 6 month goal and write that down...
I know this is getting redundant... but please stick with me, it will pay off in the long run!
After you have written your goals for 6 months, move to 3 month goals, and write those down.
Finally, write down your 1 month goals on the paper! NOW YOU ARE SET FOR SUCCESS!
If you are like me... and have a fiery desire to succeed, maybe your goals will be set even down to the day!
*Remember, the harder and the smarter you work... The more you will achieve! You must stay focused and you can handle any goal!
Stare at and read those goals daily, read them so much until you have a burning desire and feel yourself completing them. The money is in your hands, waiting to be spent! And in time, it will eventually be there. Your determination and your desire for it will bring it to you some day!
"Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there." - Bo Jackson.
Now that you are set for success... Let's go achieve!
